1839 Maritime mail/Uniform Fourpenny Period. Very fine entire sent from Berhampoor, India to London, England. This letter travelled between India and Egypt by the Red Sea packet service and between Egypt and Marseilles by British Mediterranean packet. The letter was charged 1/10d (India to Marseilles) & 10d French postage a total of 2/8d as indicated in manuscipt on front. There was no British inland postage charged on these letters. and it arrived on the last day of the uniform 4d post period Backstamped London JA.9.1840. Attractive.
