BARRACKPORE & BEAULEAH - FREE & PAID MARKS TO SIR HERBERT MADDOCK [1792-1870]: Oct. 1844 and Jan. 1845 pair of ELs (one with separate outer; both with transcripts) to Calcutta or Allipore with light red "BARRACKPORE" oval "FREE" d.s. (HG7 recorded for 1845 only) or the similar boxed "Paid" mark on rear, a similar undated wax-sealed env. (with contents headed 'Camp Duppur') to Calcutta with a very faint oval "BEAULEAH/FREE" (?) h.s. on rear and gold-tooled bound volume of the East India Register & Directory (1842) which gives TH.Maddock in the secret, political, judicial and revenue depts in its listing of Secretaries to Government and an 1828 lengthy document (some faults) with reference to the Bhopal Political Agency.
