AFGHANISTAN - First Anglo-Afghan War, 1841 "AFFGHANISTAN/B" Handstamp. Clear strike showing all letters of negative intaglio strike in black with manuscript "21st September" and "6a" date and rate added on back of folded letter datelined "Cabul 21st September 1841" and addressed to Cawnpore, India, forwarded to Tuttypoo, manuscript "If necessary to be fowarded via Benares to Barrackpore, Bearing 6as" instructional marking, Cawnpore Bearing (Giles 10) boxed datestamp (slightly affected by opening tear), cover with some minor splitting along folds and mild file fold thru Afghanistan marking VERY FINE STRIKE FOR THIS MAJOR FIRST ANGLO-AFGHAN WAR POSTAL MARKING. AN IMPORTANT RARITY WITH ONLY THREE STRIKES KNOWN. The cover offered here was unrecorded by Wilkins in Afghanistan: 1840-1996 Postal History Handbook. The other two examples are dated Jun. 27, 1841 (Kabul to Kishnagur, ex Dietrich) and Jul. 4, 1841 (Kabul to India).
